Theoretical and Applied Geopolitical Analysis in International Relations and Strategy

SUBJECT-AIM

The aim of the IPGS “Theoretical and Applied Geopolitical Analysis in International Relations and Strategy” is the provision of in-depth studies and the high-level training and specialization of graduate students in the science of Geopolitical Theory, and its interdisciplinary approaches and applications in the fields of social, legal and positive sciences that it will aim to:

a) To deepen the education of students in issues of

i) Theory of Geopolitical Analysis,

ii) its applications in International Law, the phenomenon of War and the management of power,

iii) of Cartographic representation and understanding of phenomena, as well as Geo-Observation and Spatial Analysis applications within the Geopolitical Supersystem and its Systems.

The above aims to organically interconnect the aforementioned cognitive fields, so that they become manageable by students.

b) To promote and develop research in the above scientific areas, through familiarizing students with modern theories and developing their skills in advanced techniques, related to the theory and its applications in the relevant fields, as well as through their practical introduction to scientific research.

 

The expected learning outcomes are the following:

(a) The IPGS constitutes an extremely rich and up-to-date pool of scientific knowledge, methodology and scientific techniques, having as its main objective the development of strategic thinking, critical thinking, and practical skills, creating a new, interdisciplinary generation of international analysts and strategists, capable of rationally analyzing and responding effectively within the expanded international environment, on issues of defense, security and in the formulation of strategic choices of national or supranational actors, having knowledge of high-value applications through the interdisciplinary approach.

(b) By obtaining a Master's Degree, its holder has all the formal and substantive qualifications to be absorbed by services in the narrow and broader public sector, just like holders of master's degrees in related scientific fields, such as international relations, European studies, strategic studies, political, legal and economic sciences, geoinformatics, geo-observation and their applications.

(c) Upon obtaining the Master's Degree, the holder is also able to enter the private sector, either as an executive of research institutes and centers with the subject of Geopolitics, Geostrategy, International Relations, as well as the Security and Defense of the country. It should also be noted that in recent years, more and more large multinational and smaller companies have been following international practice, utilizing geopolitical analysis, integrated into risk analysis, which involves national and international actors, in order to reduce the risk of their actions both at the international and national levels.

(d) The interdisciplinary training that participants receive in this Master's Program is a safe guarantee for those who would like to choose further in-depth research in a research program that will lead the interested party to scientific training and ultimately to the conduct of a Doctoral Thesis, in domestic and international academic institutions.
